Keyword Rankings
Number of target keywords ranking on page 1 of search engine results
What is Keyword Rankings?
Keyword rankings measure how many of the search terms you track place on the first page of search results. In practice this means counting the tracked keywords whose ranking position is between 1 and 10.
It is a leading indicator of organic traffic, since most clicks go to results on the first page. Watching it shows whether your visibility for the topics that matter is improving before the traffic itself moves.

How to calculate it
Choose a fixed list of keywords that matter to the business, then count how many of them rank in positions 1 to 10 in your SEO tool.
For example, if you track 200 keywords and 64 of them are in the top 10, your count is 64, which is 32% of the list.
Keep the tracked list stable so changes reflect performance, not a different set of terms. Group keywords by topic or by intent, and note that rankings vary by location and device.

How to improve it
Tips and common mistakes
- Rankings fluctuate daily. Look at trends over weeks, not single days.
- A first-page ranking for a term nobody searches is not valuable. Weigh keywords by demand.
- Rankings are personalised and vary by place, so treat tool figures as a guide.
