Domain Authority / Domain Rating
Third-party score (0–100) measuring the overall SEO strength of the website
What is Domain Authority / Domain Rating?
Domain authority, or domain rating, is a score from 0 to 100 published by SEO tools that estimates how strong a website's link profile is. Higher scores suggest a site is more likely to rank well in search results.
It is a third-party estimate, not a measure used directly by search engines. It is best used to compare your site with competitors and to track the long-term effect of link-building, not as a target in itself.

How to calculate it
The score is calculated by each SEO tool from its own data, mainly the number and quality of sites linking to yours. Moz reports Domain Authority and Ahrefs reports Domain Rating, and the two are not directly comparable.
Read your score in the tool you have chosen, record it on a regular schedule such as monthly, and compare it with competitors measured in the same tool.
The scale is logarithmic, so moving from 20 to 30 is much easier than moving from 70 to 80.
Where it is used
Competitor comparison
See how the authority of your site compares with others competing for the same searches.
Assessing link opportunities
Judge whether a site that might link to you is strong enough to be worth the effort.
Tracking long-term progress
Monitor whether link-building and content work are raising authority over time.
How to improve it
Tips and common mistakes
- Do not chase the score itself. It follows from doing good work, and search engines do not use it.
- Expect slow change. Authority builds over months and years.
- Small score changes are often just recalculation by the tool, not real movement.
