Social Media Follower Growth Rate
Rate of growth in total followers/subscribers across social channels
What is Social Media Follower Growth Rate?
Social media follower growth rate is the percentage change in the number of followers an account has over a period. It shows how fast an audience is building.
It is a leading measure of reach, since a larger following gives more people who can see and share content. It is most useful alongside engagement, because a growing audience that never interacts has limited value.

- ((Followers end of period − Followers start of period) / Followers start of period) × 100
How to calculate it
Subtract the number of followers at the start of the period from the number at the end, divide by the starting number, and multiply by 100.
For example, if an account had 8,000 followers at the start of the month and 8,400 at the end, the growth rate is ((8,400 - 8,000) / 8,000) x 100 = 5%.
Track it on a regular schedule and per platform. Growth rates fall naturally as an account gets larger, so compare against your own trend and similar accounts.

Tips and common mistakes

- A spike after a one-off campaign often fades. Look at the trend over months.
- Read the rate with engagement so growth is not mistaken for progress.
