Output per FTE
Average volume of defined service outputs or transactions processed per full-time equivalent
What is Output per FTE?
Output per full-time equivalent (FTE) is the number of service outputs delivered per FTE employee. It shows the productivity of a public sector team or service.
In government, where success is not measured in revenue, outputs per person give a way to track efficiency over time.

- Formula
- Total service outputs / Total FTE headcount
How to calculate it
Divide total service outputs by total FTE headcount.
For example, if a team processed 12,000 cases with 40 FTEs, output per FTE is 300 cases.
Define the output carefully, such as cases processed or applications completed, and adjust for complexity, so that teams handling harder work are not unfairly compared.
