Event-Sourced MQLs
Number of MQLs generated directly from event or webinar attendance
What is Event-Sourced MQLs?
Event-sourced marketing qualified leads is the number of event attendees who go on to meet the threshold for a qualified lead after the event. It shows how many genuinely promising contacts an event produced.
It matters because events are costly, and the number of people who attended says little about whether the event was worth it. Counting qualified leads ties the event to pipeline.

How to calculate it
Count the attendees who reach the MQL threshold after the event, within an agreed follow-up window.
For example, if 250 people attended an event and 45 of them became MQLs within 30 days, event-sourced MQLs is 45.
For cost comparisons, divide the total cost of the event by this figure to get a cost per event MQL. Use the same follow-up window for every event so they can be compared.
Where it is used
Judging event return
Compare the qualified leads produced with the cost of running the event.
Choosing which events to repeat
Rank events by the quality of the leads they generate, not by size.
Planning follow-up capacity
Prepare sales for the number of qualified leads to expect after an event.
How to improve it
Tips and common mistakes
- Quality matters more than headcount. A small event with the right people can outperform a large one.
- Do not count attendees who were already customers or open opportunities as new leads.
- Fast follow-up makes the biggest difference to how many attendees convert.
