Vulnerability Remediation Time
Average days to remediate identified critical or high vulnerabilities after discovery
What is Vulnerability Remediation Time?
Vulnerability remediation time is the average number of days from a security weakness being identified to it being fixed. It shows how quickly an organisation closes gaps that attackers could use.
The longer a known weakness stays open, the greater the risk, so faster remediation reduces exposure.

- Sum of days from vulnerability identified to remediated / Number of vulnerabilities remediated
How to calculate it
Add up the days from identification to remediation and divide by the number of vulnerabilities remediated.
For example, if 50 vulnerabilities took a combined 1,000 days to fix, the average is 20 days.
Split by severity, since critical issues should be fixed much faster, and also track how many remain open past their deadline.
Where it is used
Reducing exposure
Close weaknesses quickly.
Meeting policy and audit requirements
Show timely response.
Finding process delays
See where fixes stall.
How to improve it
Tips and common mistakes
- Track by severity, not just the overall average.
- Include the backlog of open vulnerabilities.
- Use with patch compliance.
