Partner Marketing Development Fund (MDF) Utilisation Rate
Percentage of allocated partner MDF budget that has been claimed and spent on approved co-marketing activities
What is Partner Marketing Development Fund (MDF) Utilisation Rate?
Partner Marketing Development Fund (MDF) utilisation rate is the percentage of allocated partner marketing funds that partners have claimed and spent. It shows whether the money set aside to help partners market is actually being used.
Unspent funds are wasted opportunity, and a low rate often points to partners who find the process too difficult or the conditions unclear.

- Formula
- (MDF claimed and spent / Total MDF allocated) × 100
How to calculate it
Divide the MDF claimed and spent by the total MDF allocated, and multiply by 100.
For example, if 400,000 of MDF was allocated and partners claimed and spent 260,000, the rate is (260,000 / 400,000) x 100 = 65%.
Track it by partner and by quarter. Also look at the results the spending produced, since using the fund is only useful if it generates leads and sales.
Where it is used
Managing fund use
See early which partners are not using their allocation.
Simplifying the process
Find whether claim rules are putting partners off.
Reallocating funds
Move unused money to partners who are ready to use it.
How to improve it
Tips and common mistakes
- Do not judge success on spend alone. Check the return.
- Set expiry dates so funds do not sit idle until the last minute.
- Ask partners why they have not used funds, since the answer often reveals a process problem.
