Fuel Efficiency
Average fuel consumption per unit distance travelled or per tonne of cargo moved
What is Fuel Efficiency?
Fuel efficiency in transport is the amount of fuel used to cover a set distance, commonly litres per 100 kilometres. It shows how economically a fleet operates.
Fuel is one of the biggest costs in transport, and lowering consumption also cuts emissions.

- Formula
- Total fuel consumed / Total distance covered
How to calculate it
Divide total fuel consumed by total distance covered, and multiply by 100 for litres per 100 km.
For example, if a truck used 3,000 litres over 10,000 km, efficiency is 30 litres per 100 km.
Track by vehicle and driver, and account for load, route and conditions when comparing.
