Task List
A simple list of stand-alone tasks.
About Task List
A task list is the simplest form of plan: a straightforward list of things to be done. It records each task, who is responsible and when it is due, without splitting work into levels or linking tasks to one another.
Its strength is speed and clarity. When the work is small, informal or made up of independent items, a plain list is easier to keep up to date than a more elaborate plan, and easier for everyone to understand.
Plan hierarchy
This plan has a single, flat level.
- 1
Task
A single, stand-alone item of work with an owner, a due date and a status such as not started, in progress or done. There are no parent tasks or sub-tasks, so the list can be reordered freely.
Use cases
Small pieces of work
Track a short run of tasks that do not need a formal plan.
Personal or team to-dos
Keep a clear, shared view of who is doing what this week.
Follow-up actions
Record actions arising from meetings and check them off as they are completed.
How to use it
Tips and common mistakes
- Write tasks as actions that start with a verb so it is clear what done looks like.
- Keep the list short. If it runs to dozens of items, group them or move to a fuller plan.
- Review it at a fixed time each week so it stays trustworthy.
