Email-Attributed Revenue
Revenue generated from customers who converted via a marketing email campaign
What is Email-Attributed Revenue?
Email-attributed revenue is the total revenue credited to email marketing over a period. It counts sales from customers whose purchase is linked to an email campaign under the attribution rule the business has chosen.
It turns email from an engagement channel into one with a clear financial result. It is the natural measure for comparing email with paid and other channels, provided the attribution method is understood.

How to calculate it
Add up the revenue from customers or orders where an email campaign is credited under your attribution rule. A common rule is last touch: the sale is credited to the last email the customer clicked before buying.
For example, if 1,200 orders in a month were credited to email and their average value was 45, email-attributed revenue is 1,200 x 45 = 54,000.
Be explicit about the rule and the time window, such as purchases within seven days of a click. Different rules give different totals, so keep the choice consistent when comparing periods.
Where it is used
Proving the value of email
Show revenue in money terms, so email can be judged against other channels.
Comparing campaign types
Find which kinds of email, such as promotions, reminders and newsletters, produce the most revenue.
Guiding investment
Decide how much to invest in list growth and automation based on what the channel returns.
How to improve it
Tips and common mistakes
- Last-touch attribution can flatter email, since it often reaches people who were already about to buy. Consider a holdout group to test true impact.
- Read it alongside list size, since revenue naturally grows as the list does.
- Discounting to drive email sales can cost more margin than it earns. Check profit, not just revenue.
