PESTLE Analysis
Assess Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal, and Environmental factors affecting the business.
About PESTLE Analysis
PESTLE analysis is a framework for assessing the external factors that affect an organisation. The letters stand for Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental.
It is used at the start of strategic planning to understand the wider context a business operates in, and to spot changes that create opportunities or threats. Because it looks outward rather than at internal strengths, it complements analyses such as SWOT.

How it is structured
Each of the six categories prompts a set of questions. Political factors include government policy, stability and trade rules. Economic factors include growth, inflation, exchange rates and consumer spending. Social factors include demographics, attitudes and lifestyle trends. Technological factors include innovation, automation and digital change. Legal factors cover regulation, employment and consumer law. Environmental factors cover climate, sustainability and resource use.
For each category the aim is to list the developments that matter to your organisation, assess how significant and how likely they are, and decide what response they call for.
