Creating your first project

Create a project, add a plan, and add your first element, from a blank start.

This tutorial takes you from an empty workspace to your first plan element, using a market entry as the example throughout.

Create the project

From Home, click New Project.

A dialog offers a set of templates your organization has set up, or a Blank Project. Choose Blank Project for now — you can build from a template once you have seen how the pieces fit together.

Give the project a name, such as Q1 Market Expansion, and an optional description, then click Create Project.

Insaplan opens the new project immediately. It is empty, with a row of buttons offering everything you can add to it.

Add a plan

Click New plan.

Every plan is built from a template, which sets out the kind of element it holds and how those elements nest. Pick one that suits how your organization works — an OKR structure, an agile project plan, or a strategic planning template are common starting points.

Name the plan, such as Market Entry Plan, and click Create.

Your new plan opens in Tree View, empty and ready for its first element.

Add your first element

Click the button in the top left of the plan — its label matches the top level of your chosen template, such as Initiative or Objective. Give it a title that states the goal, such as Enter the German market, then click Create Element.

The element appears in the tree once it is created. From here, add the next level down — a key result, a workstream, a task — the same way, by selecting the parent element first.

See it in Plans

Every plan you create appears in Plans, alongside every other plan across every project you have access to. Open it from there when you want to see how your work fits into the bigger picture, rather than through one project at a time.
